ITINERARY - July 7th - 16th
Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and the home to Michelangelo's David. Poignantly named Florentia ("flourishing"), Julius Caesar founded the city in the first century. Florence eventually developed into a cultural center during the Renaissance. In wake of the numerous artist guilds and textile factories, artists like Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Dante, Machiavelli, and Sandro Botticelli migrated to the city, turning it into a major cultural hub. It is noteworthy that the Medici, an art-loving family of wealthy bankers (and three popes), helped finance the Renaissance. Today, Florence is known for its grand historical monuments, culinary delights, and fine leather goods. The rolling hills of the rich Tuscan countryside are replete with verdant wine vineyards and exquisite olive groves.
Day 1 - Departure Day: Book your flight to depart the USA on July 7th to arrive in Florence Airport, Peretola by 11 AM on the 8th. Book your own flights or plan to fly from JFK with others in the group. Flight suggestions will be sent after sign-up.

The schedule includes an orientation lunch (meal included), walking orientation tour including stops at Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Florence's Duomo), Piazza della Signoria, the Ponte Vecchio, and more. In the evening, join the other ladies for dinner at one of Fleace's favorite restaurants. Yummy is the word!
Day 3 - What educator can come to Florence and not visit the Accademia to behold the spectacle of Michelangelo's Masterpiece, the Statue of David? Or the Uffizi Gallery, the most famous museum in Florence, and one of the most famous museums in the world? You will visit BOTH along with Mausoleum of the Medici family, Medici Chapels (Cappelle Medicee), before free time to shop at the famous San Lorenzo open air market. In the evening, eat and drink under the stars at one of Fleace's favorite night locations.
Day 4 - Take the train to Cortona, the well-preserved and untainted medieval hilltop village. "Under the Tuscan Sun" filmed many scenes here. You will visit many of the locations used for filming the movie, including Le Celle, which was home to St Francis of Assisi.
Day 5 - Today, you will head to Pisa to see its famous Leaning Tower and San Gimignano, a town filled with a skyline of medieval towers, including the eminent stone Torre Grossa. In addition, you will visit a local wine vineyard for a memorable wine tasting experience. The day will end with more fun the BGT way! #TeamNoSleep
